Jim Holmes

Jim Holmes grew-up in Moultrie, GA. He attended Emory University, earning a BS in Political Science, and was elected to ODK National Honorary as well as to Emory’s Senior Honorary Society.

Upon graduation Jim entered the Naval Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in November of 1978, graduating as a Distinguished Naval Graduate. He served on two destroyers, the USS Brownson (DD-868) and USS John Willis (DE-1027)], and then left active duty to enter Graduate School. Jim remained affiliated with the Naval Reserve, changing his Job Code to Intelligence. He served another twenty five years in various positions, including National Chief of Staff for the Naval Reserve Intelligence Program and approximately a year as the Deputy Director of Intelligence for the Joint Task Force – enforcing the UN Sanctions against Southern Iraq. He retired in December of 1998 after thirty years of service with the rank of Captain. His highest commendation was the Legion of Merit.

Upon leaving active duty Jim attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, earning a Master of Business Administration from the Darden School and a JD from UVA Law School. He passed the Bar and entered private practice in the Fall of 1978.

Jim has been practicing in the Family Law Arena since 1978. His current practice is primarily as a Mediator or as an Arbitrator of Family Law cases. His litigation experience includes all issues that arise in Family Law cases, with expertise in child custody issues and complex financial issues.
